Module 8 - The Additional Output Files

Welcome back to the Swiftest Short Course! In Module 7, you learned how analyze the main Swiftest output file using the Swiftest Python package. In Module 8, you will learn about the various additional output files generated by Swiftest. By the end of this module, you will understand how additional information that is not included in the main output file is stored, as well as know how to interpret Swiftest log files.

Active Learning Goals Checklist

By the end of Module 8, you will know how to:

  • Differentiate between binary output files and NetCDF output files
  • Analyze the extra output files generated when using a binary output format, including the discard.out, energy.out, particle.out, and enc.out
  • Analyze the Swiftest log files, including the encounter_check_plpl_timer.log, the encounter_check_pltp_timer.log, the interaction_timer.log, and the fraggle.log
