TivaCANRustAllocator

A Rust-based embedded allocator example for the TM4C123GXL LaunchPad, integrating Tiva-C CAN functionality and dynamic memory allocation.

Overview

This project demonstrates how to use Rust with a custom allocator on the TM4C123GXL LaunchPad board. It includes support for:

CAN (Controller Area Network) communication
Embedded-friendly dynamic memory allocation
Bare-metal development using no_std Rust
Integration with the alloc crate

The goal is to showcase how Rust's memory safety and performance features can be applied in embedded systems development, especially in resource-constrained environments.

Hardware Requirements

TM4C123GXL (Tiva-C Series LaunchPad)

Build and Flash Instructions

Set up Rust for embedded development:

rustup target add thumbv7em-none-eabihf

Clone the repository:

git clone https://github.itap.purdue.edu/wang32/TivaCANRustAllocator.git
cd TivaCANRustAllocator

Build the firmware:

cargo build --release --target thumbv7em-none-eabihf

Flash to the board:

Use your preferred flashing tool (e.g., OpenOCD, J-Link, or LM Flash Programmer).

Notes

This project assumes familiarity with embedded Rust development.
The CAN example may need hardware-specific tuning (e.g., bit rate, filters).
If dynamic allocation fails, ensure the heap is correctly initialized and sized.
